As most of you who bother to check this website will likely know, Harsh Realities had a rough couple years after premiering its first efforts in 2012. In late 2014, Harsh made the tough decision to salvage Harsh Realities rather than let it fade and die. It has been a long, difficult road. That's not a plea for pity or sympathy. Just stating the facts. Like many independent start-up tabletop game companies, Harsh Realities 1.0 (2012) was a vanity project fueled more by a passion for games and being creative than anything else. Ultimately, we put the cart before the horse, so to speak, and were not prepared for the hardships of life that would derail us. That was then.
Today marks the offical reboot, or re-launch, or Harsh Realities. The company has been restructured with a more secure foundation. The product library is being updated with current content and updated designs. The two Kickstarters that Harsh inherited are being fulfilled, and will be fulfilled by the end of the year, if not sooner. And support content, such as adventures and source books, are being planned to follow the two Setting books published as a result of fulfilling the Kickstarters. Sixcess has been updated to reflect all the feedback Harsh Realities received since first releasing Sixcess Core, and Sixcess Core will soon be retired. Sixcess Core is still viable as a core mechanic, but Sixcess 2nd Edition has a much cleaner design and is much easier to navigate and comprehend as a game system. It clarifies the rules in several sections that were either vague or otherwise unclear, clearly establishes which rules are Optional Rules and which are Basic Rules, and streamlines the game system to be even more familiar and comprehensive than it already is in Sixcess Core. All these product updates and new releases will roll out as they are finalized, starting this month and into the fall and winter.
Along with the product catalog updates, Harsh will be (finally) getting around to updating the website and streamlining the internet presence of Harsh Realities to allow fans, followers, friends, and potential partners to more easily find and interact with the company. The intent is to be accessible, and to provide the best customer experience possible in hopes of making some great longterm gamer friends.
Any interested third party content creators anxious to apply the Sixcess game system to their Adventure, Mini-Setting, or Setting, will be able to enjoy the official licensing of Sixcess starting Sept. 2017. Please contact Harsh for more details.
In other news, Harsh Realities will unfortunately not be at GenCon 2017 in any capacity. We have been entirely focused on this reboot, and will possibly be looking to begin attending some cons again in 2018.
